History for the Taking with Favorite Erotic Author and Favorite Erotic Historical Nom Debra Glass

I was thrilled to be nominated as favorite erotic romance author of 2009, and to also have two of my books, Bad Kitty and Bought and Paid For, nominated as favorite erotic historical romance of 2009.

Although I started out writing paranormal romance at Ellora's Cave with my Phantom Lovers series, my heart was in historical romance. Even my paranormal phantoms were men with a past - pun intended. (A long, sordid past!)
To me, there's just something taboo about sex and romance in the nineteenth century. Attitudes were different but libidos were just as ravenous as they are today. The characters in historicals seem to have more at stake. The clothes allowed the imagination to flourish. And strict social mores demanded discretion. The reader wants to feel these emotions along with the characters and as an author, I strive to put my reader in my heroine's low-heeled, jeweled slippers!

I love writing Regency romance but my expertise lies in American Civil War settings. As a southerner, regional folklorist, and historian, I draw from local color, characters, and history to bring my historical heroes and heroines to life.

Bram Barclay is the scandal of London society, sought out by ladies of the ton who enjoy his brand of pleasurable punishments. That’s why he cannot comprehend why innocent Miss Katrina Hartford has disguised herself as Kitty Hartley, taking a position as a maid at his estate. When he attempts to ferret out her secret, he finds her a willing servant, indeed.

No one knows scathing social columnist Alistair Allenby is Kitty’s nom de plume—or that she’s writing an article to expose Bram. But as she submits to his torturous toys, it’s Kitty who is exposed, indulging her unspoken desires to find true freedom, power…and love.

Reader Advisory: While not a true depiction of a BDSM lifestyle, Bad Kitty contains its share of tantalizing taboos. And spankings. Lots and lots of spankings.

“Remove your chemise, Kitty.” It was a command.

Something deep inside her clenched in anticipation as she drew the fabric up and over her head. Instinctively she attempted to cover her bare breasts with her chemise but Bram took it, tossed it across the room and caught her hands in his before she could move.

Kitty could hardly swallow as his eyes drank in the sight of her breasts, of her diamond-hard nipples. She held her breath, afraid of the slightest movement.
His hands were hot as coals on her wrists and she wondered what that same heat would feel like if he cupped her breasts or if he tugged on her nipples the way he had the duchess’s.

“Do not cover yourself,” he said as he released her.

A surge of something akin to disappointment swept through her at the sudden absence of his touch. “Now,” he said. “Take down your drawers.”

Kitty’s heart ran wild as she tugged the drawstring that held up her cotton drawers. She even felt as if her pulse were beating in the crevice between her legs but the thought of exposing herself to this rake suddenly became unthinkable. How dare he ask her, a supposed maid in his service, to represent herself to him this way!
“No,” she said with authority.

He laughed and Kitty’s cheeks burned with shame and anger. She clenched her fists to keep from slapping the grin right off his face. This was enough. She had no business here. She started to dip to retrieve her clothes but he caught her and, before she could cry out, he had her bent over his desk.

His knee pushed between hers, prodding her legs apart as he easily held both her wrists in one hand and pinned them behind her back.
Kitty bucked until a resounding slap landed on her buttock. Shock immobilized her. Heat radiated through her bottom and, as the sting subsided, something else replaced it. Something delicious that seemed to prick that throbbing between her legs, making it more acute, almost painful.

Part of her was humiliated beyond belief and another part of her yearned for him to do it again.
Would he? She struggled. Once more, the firm hand found its target. Kitty heard a sigh and realized it was her own voice, sounding very reminiscent of the moans the duchess had made in the bushes that night.

This should have been the most humiliating moment of her life and yet Kitty’s body rebelled against propriety, wanting more.

“Are you ready to pull down your drawers and show me your cunny, Kitty?”

Her pulse thrummed through her veins in a slow, steady, thick throb and all she could think about was assuaging this yearning between her legs.
What was she considering?

This man was a fiend. A deviant!
But he had her in a vise hold and there was nothing—absolutely nothing—she could do or say now other than yes. Her total loss of control filled her with dark desire she could not explain.

Bought and Paid For by Debra Glass

Unable to support herself and her beloved servants, Widow Carrie Hatcher contemplates the unthinkable—offering her services for money. Forced to board wounded Colonel Wesley McEwen, Carrie vows to make the striking Confederate soldier her first “client”.

But Carrie gets more than she bargained for when she agrees to comply with Wesley’s every illicit request for one week. Throughout long, sultry nights, Wesley tutors Carrie in every position, every skill, of her illicit new trade. From dark taboos to pleasurable punishments, Carrie becomes his willing pupil.

Passions inflamed, the couple becomes more scandalously intimate but Carrie realizes she wants to give him far more than just her body. The colonel, however, may be too haunted by his past to risk accepting more than he’s bought and paid for.

An Excerpt From Bought and Paid For

Heart pounding, Carrie moved to the bed and sat beside him. Thus far, she had avoided making eye contact with him as much as possible. To accomplish her goal, however, it was necessary. But when her gaze found his, her breath froze. His eyes were as black as smoldering coals. The color had returned to his face and Carrie was struck by the stark contrast of the gentleman versus the rugged soldier about him.

“I need to examine the wound,” she said, her voice hoarse.

His eyes never leaving hers, he lowered the quilt to expose not only his arm but the entire expanse of his chest—all the way down to his rippled, narrow waist.

Carrie cleared her throat as she leaned close and lifted the bandages away from his wound. Heat exuded from his body. The balmy scent of sleep and coffee swirled around him and Carrie found herself wanting to get even closer, wanting to nestle her cheek against those sparse hairs on his chest. She swallowed thickly and shifted.

“It looks much better,” she said as conflicting emotions warred within her. On the one hand, the doctor would no longer insist on amputating the arm and the colonel would be able to…copulate…with her. On the other, the doctor would not be coming back. There would be no hope for Jenny—until Carrie could earn the money to pay a doctor.

Gently, Carrie replaced the bandage. “I’ve…I’ve considered your offer.”

God, she was so close to him. She could hear the breaths moving through his body. She could see his chest palpitating with his steady heartbeats.

She suddenly felt sick inside. She couldn’t go through with this.

“I thought you might.”

Her gaze collided with his.

He shifted slightly so that Carrie became painfully aware of his thigh at her hip, with only the quilt and her skirts preventing their skin from touching. “It is only fitting that I do what I can to help you financially while I am under your roof.”

Carrie pursed her lips, searching for the right words. “That’s not quite what I wanted to speak with you about.”

Sick panic raced through her veins as his eyes moved over her face. “I’m not sure I understand,” he said.

She lowered her lashes. “I would accept your offer,” she began with reticence, “but only if you allow me to…compensate you.”

When he did not answer immediately, she cast her gaze back up.

He seemed to be studying her. “I think perhaps I am mistaking your meaning and I do not wish to offend you.”

“No,” she said, her voice but a breath. Her pulse pounded so hard she could hear her heart beating in her ears. “You haven’t mistaken my meaning.”

Again, he stared. Carrie knew her face was beet red. She could feel the heat searing her cheeks but it was too late to turn back now.

“Carrie, I think you should plainly state what you are offering so that we both know,” he said firmly.

Delicately, she cleared her throat. “I am offering my…services to you for money. My sexual services.”

She half expected him to either burst into laughter or chide her with a sermon about the evils of prostitution.

He did neither.

Instead, he sat calmly, his expression blank. “You do realize you don’t have to do this?”

“You’re wrong. I do.”

“Carrie, I will see to whatever needs you have.”

“Do you not find me attractive?” she asked, sitting straighter to accentuate the swell of her breasts and her narrow waist.

“That’s not the issue.”

“Do you or do you not?” she demanded, trembling.

He sighed. “Yes. Yes, I find you extremely attractive.”

Carrie wet her dry lips with the tip of her tongue. “I know a man has needs just as I have needs.”

She instantly stopped talking when he reached out and put his hand over hers.

  3. Bought and Paid For is one of my absolute favorites! Especially that part where Wesley walks in on Carrie about to take on a "customer" and orders the soldier out with a gun cocked at him! *Sigh* He was tortured, loving and sexy. You just brought their love story to life.
